St George’s Maths

Maths

Maths is a core subject in the National Curriculum. We aim to provide a challenging and enjoyable mathematics curriculum for all children. Children develop the use of mathematical language through speaking and listening, including reasoning and explanations. Mathematics teaching will enable all children to understand the value of mathematics in everyday situations.

All our children are encouraged to be actively involved in mathematics. Talk is a fundamental part of our Maths teaching, encouraging children to think, explain, share and build on their understanding. We encourage experimentation with practical equipment and materials. Increased enjoyment of mathematics comes from active participation.

We use the National Curriculum objectives for teaching as a basis for all areas we cover in Maths lessons. Using White Rose maths we ensure that our children’s learning is well structured and progressive.

We use the agreed White Rose calculation policy to ensure all teaching methods are consistent and progressive. This policy can be used by parents and carers to support the learning of Mathematics at home.
